JOHN DURON
Born in 1938, John found himself shinning shoes for the Army soldiers, delivering papers on his bike and a love for art at an early age. In his mid teens, John made his way down to Los Angeles and received his Barbers License at 18 years of age. He continued his education receiving his Cosmetology License and running his own hair salon on Sunset Blvd.
John was drafted into the army and deployed to Germany, John found a love for travel and meeting a variety of people. He was Honorably Discharged from the U. S. Army and continued to travel Europe for the next few years.
In the mid eighties, he began his career in art at the L.A. Impression Fine Art Gallery located on Melrose in West Los Angeles.
In the early nineties, he was involved with Latin American Professional Women’s Association for their thirteenth Annual Showcase at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.
In the mid nineties, he had a very successful one man show in Havana, Cuba, making him the first American artist to have a show there in forty years.
John has traveled extensively through the Caribbean and Europe, mostly Paris France, and Germany. He studied at the University of Salamanca, Spain in 1977. In 1992, he went to Florence, Italy to study the process of serigraphs, lithographs, and etching mono type under the instruction of Ruth Weisberg (Art director at USC). John also spent years studying print making under the direction of Henry Klein and in recent years, has studied and worked with Dan Freeman, master printer for such great artists as Andy Warhol, and Robert Rauschenberg.
John offers a variety of art, from pastels, oils, graphite, mixed media, and prints on acrylic. John never repeats himself, he continues to challenge himself with art pushing outside the boundaries.
in 2021, Jodi Simon found her father John after 53 years. John had no idea he had a daughter searching for him all along living within miles of each other all their lives. They are now bonded together artist and family, offering art they work on side by side.
